Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas Medicare Supplement Plan- Ranked Number 1

Sunday, July 8th, 2012

I have consumers ask me on a daily basis who has the best Texas Medicare Supplement Plan or Medigap (same thing) is the best. Sometimes it’s hard to answer due to so many moving parts like where they live, their age and which plan out of the 10 available they are looking at. But one thing is for certain, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas Medicare Supplement Insurance is my personal favorite. Period.

Why IS BCBS of TX the Best?

Why? Well it’s simple I personally feel BCBS of TX offers consumers and me as a broker superior customer service and attention to detail. Clients are getting issued in more than a timely fashion and any needed additional paperwork is always expedited. I also notice how they are issuing seniors in a guaranteed issue or initial turning 65 status within a few hours in most cases. Speed and efficiency are critical for seniors with mandated time frames; there is just no margin for error with this group.

Another factor in me selecting them the best is they have an excellent application process that assist in executing these applications in a timely manner. First, their online process is top notch allowing even the most computer challenged senior to finalize the process, never once being forced into the old style “wet signature” and sending back in the mail. Of course they also offer the more traditional application packet that must be physically filled out and submitted but even that process is better than most companies.

Rate Increases Low at Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Medicare Supplement Insurance in Texas, like all other traditional forms of coverage does have rate increases and I dislike them as much as you do. BCBS seems to have some of the most stable rates in the industry, where some carriers have pounded the rates some 10 and 12% these guys have not exhibited that type of behavior. They actually experienced a rate decrease this last October which was a pleasant surprise to most seniors. Of course there is no way of knowing what may or may not happen from one year to the next so yes, they could raise rates soon, but so far so good.

Another note about them is if you are a tobacco user they don’t charge an additional assessment for being in the so called “tobacco user” status. This causes their rates to be some of the most competitive among that group. Good news again.

All Plans have Cons.

Yes, all plans have something I would change and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas Medicare Supplement has one as well. Their rates at the time of this writing seem just a “tick” higher than some of the lowest priced plans but it should be noted that other companies marketing Medigap plans do experience rate increases that after a year of two may put the Blues at the lower price point.

If you feel that the current plan you have may be charging above market price of if you are just now turning 65 and in the need for a Texas Medicare Supplement Plan give them a look. You can obtain instant quotes from our website.

The Toughest Texas Medigap Policy to Purchase is the First One- Relax

Friday, May 18th, 2012

Now that you’ve decided you’d like to purchase Texas Medigap policy, you’re a little apprehensive because you’ve never done it before. True, there are a lot of rules and restrictions as it relates to eligibility, enrollment etc. And with so many plans to choose from, how can you be sure you’ve picked the right one? The good news is, after you buy your first policy, you won’t be a first time buyer anymore. But for now, follow a few tips to make your experience easier, more convenient and hassle free.

Learn the Rules

Before doing anything with your wallet, take the time to learn the rules. That means sit down and read. Read about Open Enrollment, Annual enrollment and Special Enrollment periods. Learn how they are different from one another and how choosing the right time to buy a policy really can save you time and money. For most folks, the best time to buy Medigap insurance is usually during your open enrollment period. The one time, 7 month period of time during which every insurance provider must sell you a policy regardless of your health. If you miss this period, you may be denied a policy or forced to wait an extended amount of time for coverage to begin. Do yourself a favor and learn the rules.

Choose a Plan Carefully

Part of finding the right Medigap policy is choosing the right plan. In Texas there are ten available plans to choose form, each with different combinations of benefits. Read each plans specific benefits and make a list to help you decide what type of coverage you must have and what type of coverage you can live without. In many cases, plans are almost exactly alike with the exception of one difference. Learn to decide which of these benefits you really don’t need and save yourself time and energy trying to pick and choose the right coverage.

Be Realistic With Your Budget

Before committing to a certain plan, make sure it truly fits with your budget. Be realistic because if you miss your payment, you could lose coverage completely. You want to make sure you can afford the premium and are capable of paying any other costs associated with your coverage. Pay attention to plans that eliminate out-of-pocket expenses and decide if you would rather share the costs of healthcare for reduced monthly premiums or pay less out-of-pocket when you visit your doctor and more monthly.

Compare Providers For More Than Just Cost

Chances are good you already have an insurance provider in mind, but if not, take the time to consider more than just the cost of Medigap insurance. Remember, medical policies are standardized, meaning every provider is required to sell the same policy with the same benefits. This does not guarantee that all companies are as dependable or as reliable in delivering benefits. Stay with household names you know and trust like Mutual of Omaha or Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas for security and the peace of mind that comes from knowing your dealing with leaders in health insurance.

Looking to purchase Medigap insurance for the first time? Make your experience easier, more convenient and hassle free by following a few simple tips. Prepare ahead of time by understanding enrollment rules, choose a plan that makes the most sense for your specific needs, consider your budget and choose a solid, dependable provider.

Are There Claim Forms to Fill Out With Texas Medicare Supplement Insurance?

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

If you are currently enrolled in a Texas Medicare Supplement Insurance plan or are considering purchasing one, you may have some questions about the claims process. It’s probably a good idea to learn a little about how the process works, and what you’re responsibilities are in the event you need medical care. Remember, even Medicare makes mistakes and you need to know what’s going on in the event something happens. Take some time to review the information below and you’ll be prepared and informed when and if you face the claims process.

The Claims Process

Medicare and Medicare supplement policies and procedures can be a bit challenging. With so much information to digest, it’s hard to keep up. Nevertheless, when you visit the doctor for treatment, you need to know how the claims process works so you’ll know what to do weeks later if a bill arrives in your mailbox.

Generally, when you have a Medigap policy, the doctors and hospitals where you receive medical treatment are responsible for submitting Medicare claims to your insurance company.  After Medicare pays, your insurance company pays the Medicare supplement portion. It’s called the Medicare “Crossover System” and it ensures claims are paid promptly and efficiently.

Usually, it’s a very simple procedure. The first time you visit your doctor, you show your Medicare supplement card. The information is stored electronically and any time in the future you need treatment, your information is on file and claims are submitted automatically.

In Texas, it’s required for insurance companies to pay claims promptly. In the off chance your insurance company refuses to pay for Medicare approved services, you or your doctor have the right to file a complaint with the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI).

Extra Charges are Your Responsibility

You’d like to think all your medical services are covered, but unfortunately, even with Medicare supplement insurance, that is simply not the case. Most Medicare supplement policies pay only for services Medicare decides are “medically necessary”. If you are unsure what these exact services are, you can look in your Medicare Summary Notice. If you do receive a bill for services, you will need to review your notice statement to find out if you owe anything extra. All medical providers and doctors that accept Medicare should know beforehand if a procedure is approved by Medicare and the rule of thumb is if it’s an approved charge the supplement is required by law to start paying its share. Fairly simple and less worrisome., easy actually.

Choose Your Provider Wisely

The good news is, regardless of who you buy your Medigap policy from, the claims process works the same and you will not be involved in the procedure at all. In fact, most filing is done electronically, making it even easier for everyone involved. While the claims process is the same, individual companies are not. Make certain to choose reputable, dependable and trustworthy companies for providing your Medigap insurance. Stay with the household names you recognize and avoid unknown, unreliable starter companies. With the major carriers like United of Omaha or Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas you get peace of mind that claims will be paid on time and without a dispute.

In Texas, there are no claim forms to fill out with Medicare supplement insurance. Thanks to the Medicare crossover system and electronic filing, all the paperwork is completed for you, making it possible for you to concentrate on nothing but feeling better.

Is Your Texas Medicare Supplement Plan Still Within Your Budget?

Sunday, April 8th, 2012

Times are tough for everyone and a few dollars saved here and there can really add up at the end of the month. While medical benefits are not an area you’re willing to make sacrifices in, there are some money saving strategies available to help save you money in the long run. How about your Texas Medicare Supplement plan? Is it still within your budget? Learn how to choose a policy that not only makes sense for you medically, but provides coverage you can afford, leaving more money where it belongs- in your pocket.

Medicare Supplement Plans are Not Created Equal

Regardless of what you may have heard, all Medicare Supplement or “Medigap” plans are not created equal. In Texas, there are ten different plans to choose from. Each plan is identified by a different letter of the alphabet and each offers different combinations of benefits. Some plans offer minimal coverage, while others are designed to eliminate out-of-pocket expenses completely. The right plan can significantly reduce or increase the amount of money you need to pay to visit your doctor.

Look for Flexibility With Pricing

There are alternatives available where you can get the coverage you need, but for less money.  For instance, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas offers a reduced premium Medicare Select option that provides the same benefits but for less cost. By agreeing to use participating hospitals, you can save money.

Budget conscious plans offer another alternative. High deductible plans have a cost sharing feature that offers low cost premiums with the coverage you need to feel safe and secure. Plus, there are always low cost basic Medicare Supplement plans that provide just the minimum benefits.

Don’t Sacrifice Quality for Low Prices

While cost is a major consideration when it comes to your Medicare Supplement insurance, try not to sacrifice quality for the cheapest rate. Luckily, Medigap plans in Texas are standardized.  Meaning a plan “F” sold by one insurance company must include the same benefits as a plan “F” sold by another company. This makes comparison shopping a bit easier, but does not guarantee the insurance companies will provide benefits the same way.

In addition to cost, there are some pretty important differences between insurance companies that you must take into consideration. While you may be able to find cheap rates for the same Medigap policy, remember that dependability, stability and name recognition will most certainly impact a company’s ability to deliver benefits when you need them most. Be smart when selecting your insurance provider and stay with names you know and trust to get reliable, dependable coverage.

Medicare Supplement insurance can potentially save you thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket expenses. With deductibles, coinsurance and copays, a few trips to the doctors can leave you financially strapped. Make sure to get the best deal by looking for flexibility with pricing, don’t sacrifice quality for low prices and select only dependable, reliable providers you know and trust.

Standardized Medicare Supplement Plans in Texas Make Selecting One Easy

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

If you’re in the market for Medicare Supplement insurance, here’s some good news- finding the perfect plan is easy because they’re standardized by the federal government. What does that mean? Well, for you, that means an easier way to compare specific plans, an easier way to compare insurance companies and an easier way to select exactly the right plan to fit your needs. Take a minute to review some facts about Medicare Supplement plans in Texas and make choosing the perfect plan a breeze.

What Does Standardized Mean?

In Texas, there are ten Medicare Supplement plans to choose from. Each plan is identified by a different letter of the alphabet and each has a different combination of benefits. The letter system makes it convenient to identify one plan from another. The federal government standardizes Medicare Supplement plans, meaning that each plan of a certain letter must offer the same benefits- all the time, regardless of the company offering the coverage.

As you know, Medicare Supplement insurance, also called Medigap insurance, is sold through private insurance companies. Standardized plans offered by these companies must include the exact same minimum level of benefits. In other words, a Plan F from one insurance company must have the same coverage as a Plan F offered through another insurance company. Standardized Medicare Supplement plans in Texas ensure that you can compare easily.

There are Still Important Differences

While it’s true that insurance companies offer the same plans, there are still differences that must be considered. Obviously cost is a major consideration. Simply because companies must offer the same coverage does not guarantee they will sell it for the same price. Nevertheless, most insurance companies are competitive, meaning they usually run fairly close to one another in pricing. It’s not uncommon however to see price spreads of 20 or 30 dollars a month with some carriers.

More importantly, the real difference between providers has more to do with the reputation and reliability of the company than the actual Medigap plan. Medicare Supplement plans may be standardized, but the insurance companies are not. You still need to be selective in choosing you insurance provider. Why? Simple. A reliable insurance company with a track record of providing dependable coverage is a much better choice than an unknown company that could be out of business in a month, or a year when you need your benefits. Also, most brokers can give you the trends of the different companies as it relates to rate increases therefore eliminating the possibility that you find yourself shopping for coverage every year or two.

Choose Quality, Receive Quality

A good rule of thumb to live by- choose quality, receive quality. When you make the decision to purchase your Medicare supplement insurance in Texas, look for names of companies you know and trust like Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas or United of Omaha. These are the companies that will be there for you rain or shine, when you need reliable coverage you can depend on.

Standardized Medicare Supplement plans in Texas make choosing the perfect plan easy and convenient. Without having to search endlessly for the right combination of benefits, you can spend more time looking for a quality provider. Choose reputable, well-known companies like United of Omaha or BCBS of Texas and get peace of mind in knowing when you need medical coverage, you can get it- no questions asked.

In other words, a Plan “F” from one company must contain the same minimum benefits as a plan “F” from another company. This makes comparison shopping a bit easier, but only in terms of the specific plans. You still need to consider the reputation of the provider for being able to deliver.

Stay with BCBS of Texas to get competitive pricing and rest assured you’re getting top quality at great rates.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas customers are the first to tell you that they get a lot more than just a plan when they purchase Medicare supplement insurance. Will the Medigap Policies Available in Texas Allow Me to See My Doctor?

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

You’re not alone if you’re concerned about being able to keep your doctor after you purchase a supplement policy. In fact, if you’re like most people, you’re probably pretty comfortable with your healthcare provider and you’re not looking forward to changing. While you’re certain that you’re going to need to purchase a Medigap plan, you’re not sure how to choose one that will fit your specific needs. There are networks, select plans and a whole bunch of options that can be a bit confusing. Learning a little about Medigap policies available in Texas and how they affect your healthcare choices will help you choose a plan that best fits your healthcare needs and gives you peace of mind.

The Basics

Medicare is federally funded healthcare available to all Texans age 65 or older and those with certain disabilities. Medicare is great for helping to pay for some of your health care costs. However, It wasn’t designed to pay for everything and as a result, there are out-of-pocket expenses that you are responsible for. Most Texans opt for Medigap insurance, also called Medicare Supplement insurance to fill the “gaps” in Medicare that aren’t covered. A Medigap plan in Texas can help you pay for these extra expenses.

Medigap Policies Available in Texas

There are ten Medigap policies available in Texas. Each plan is identified by a different letter of the alphabet (A through N) and each plan offers a different combination of benefits. Some plans cover basic benefits and some plans cover more. In Texas, most people prefer plan F because it’s the only Medigap plan that completely eliminates all out-of-pocket expenses like deductibles, coinsurance and copayments.

Medigap plans in Texas are standardized, meaning that a plan F sold by one insurance company must provide the exact same basic benefits as a plan F sold by another company. The only differences among insurance companies are cost and dependability. This is helpful when you’re looking to compare plans. Nevertheless, shop wisely and make certain to stay with a name you trust like Humana or Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. Simply because other insurance companies must offer the same plan does not mean that they will be as dependable or reliable.

What About keeping my Doctor?

With all standard Medigap plans available in Texas, you may choose your own doctor and you never need a referral to see a specialist. That is true for every plan from every provider. However, there is an option called Medicare Select, where in return for paying less for your premium, you agree to use doctors and physicians in a preferred network.

Medicare Select

Medicare Select is a type of Medicare Supplement policy that offers the same benefits as other plans, but costs less. In exchange for paying a lower premium, you agree to use doctors and hospitals in the plan’s network. Check with your doctor, because in many cases, he or she may be included in the plan’s network.

Medicare Select is a great way to save money on premiums, as long as you are willing to stay within the network. However, with emergency care, you can go to any hospital, but if you use out-of network providers for non-emergency care, you’re responsible for some of the cost. If you leave your Medicare Select plan, your insurance company must offer you a Medicare Supplement plan with similar benefits.

Looking for and finding a Medigap plan can be a bit confusing if you’re concerned about keeping your doctor. While there are Medicare Select options that require you to use doctors in a network, standardized Medigap policies do not require that you use a network and you can keep your own doctor. Take the time to familiarize yourself with the Medigap plans available in Texas and shop wisely. Stay with names you trust like Humana and BCBS of Texas and get the peace of mind that comes from knowing you are covered completely- with your own doctor.

What is the Most Popular Medigap Insurance Plan in Texas?

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

If you are like most folks in Texas, health care is an important issue to you. You know a little bit about Medicare- at least enough to know that you will most likely need to supplement your coverage with Medigap Insurance. Unfortunately, there are so many different plans, you’re not sure where to begin. What is the most popular Medigap insurance plan in Texas and is this the right plan for you? Understanding Medigap insurance and how it works with Medicare will help you make an informed decision if and when you decide to purchase a Medigap insurance plan.

What is Medigap Insurance?

Medigap Insurance, also known as Medicare Supplement insurance, is insurance that you purchase from a private insurer to help fill the gaps in coverage provided by Original Medicare. This means that it helps pay for some of the health care costs that Original Medicare doesn’t cover like deductibles, coinsurance and other related expenses. Medigap insurance is different from a Medicare Advantage Plan because Medigap coverage only supplements Medicare while Medicare Advantage Plans actually provide Medicare benefits.

All Medigap policies are standardized by the federal government, meaning that every insurance provider must provide the exact same coverage for plans A through N. However, that does not mean that they must charge the same prices. As a result, there is much disparity between companies. It is always a good idea to stick with reputable insurance providers like Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas or United of Omaha when purchasing your Medigap insurance. Simply because insurance providers must provide the same coverage does not mean that they are all dependable or reliable.

Plan F-The Favorite of Texans

In Texas, there are 10 Medicare Supplement Insurance plans offered- plans A, B, C, D, F, G, L, K, M and N. Each plan has slightly different coverage which is why it is so important to review each one carefully. Nevertheless, most seniors in Texas prefer Plan F as it provides the most peace of mind due to the fact that all deductibles, cost sharing and coinsurance are completely eliminated.  While this may be the best choice for many people, it may not be right for everyone. Make certain to review each plan carefully to recognize what is most important to you.

Monthly premiums vary considerably between plans. As a general rule, the more coverage you have, the higher your monthly rate. Nevertheless, there are a variety of cost saving strategies available that can make affordable Medigap insurance a reality. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas for instance has a Medicare Select Option that offers the same benefits as other plans but with discounted premiums. By agreeing to use Medicare Select Network Hospitals, premium rates are reduced saving you money. Also, a company like United of Omaha, which by the way is a Mutual of Omaha company, offers a spouse discount to help reduce some of the monthly premium.

Like most other states, Texas offers quite a few choices when it comes to Medigap insurance. While there are several different plans with slightly different benefits to choose from, Plan F continues to be the most favored Medicare Supplement plan in Texas. In terms of providing the best coverage with no hassle, no deductible, coinsurance or cost sharing, it simply can’t be beat. Choose a reputable, dependable insurance company that you can trust like Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, review the available plans carefully and have peace of mind that your health care is well protected.
